Event Review: Black Bottle Whisky Tasting – The Dutch Umhlanga

Well now, what a swanky affair for a Monday evening. I had been invited to the Whisky Tasting event a couple weeks back, and while I knew it was approaching I found myself fizzled with excitement on the morning of the 30th March.

My friend and I were off to Umhlanga to a venue called The Dutch for an evening of Whisky tasting and socializing. I in smart casual wear, and my date for the evening, dressed like something out of a Dolce & Gabbanna Model Portfolio. I was impressed to say the least 🙂

I love Umhlanaga and I especially love wondering around in the warm evenings, walking in between eatery establishments a warm salty sea breeze coating the evening, with excitement and intrigue. We arrived much to early and fortunate enough to be able to do exactly this before we dived into the 1800’s and met the 3 Graham Brothers.

The Graham brother’s we have to thank for that which is Black Bottle Whisky. Once we had arrived, we were seated in the waiting section of The Dutch. After a short-while, Group A were sent through the elusive doors to the bar area for our tasting. A gentleman, with an incredibly deep American accent, explained the history and origin of Black Bottle to the crowd while helping us distinguish the several different flavors within the Whisky. I have to be honest, I think I’ve found a new favorite Whisky. It’s smooth, it’s smoky and full bodied, whether on the rocks or in a Ginger Ale Cocktail.

Speaking of which, often event’s forget that quality staff make a quality event. Not so with the Black Bottle Whisky Club. Between them and The Dutch, the staff played a HUGE role in making the evening what it was. The barmen, were friendly, upbeat, comical and well enjoyed, and the cocktails, mixed to perfection. There were Polaroid photo’s to be had, and magic tricks to be shared.

If I dare say, The Dutch was the perfect venue, for this event. The lightning, was romantic and soft. The evening was filled with laughs, and exploration into the Black Bottle Whisky Brand. And to top it off the 5 piece band playing at the event, were amazing! Simply elegant and perfect for the evening’s atmosphere. Surrounded by interior design, posters of singers past, and memorabilia of legends present.

It was a fantastic evening, I highly suggest adding a bottle of Black Bottle Whisky to your collection.

Congratulations to all those involved in making this event a success. DKC, Black Bottle and The Dutch you’ve done a suburb job! And I look forward to the next one….
