Who are the KONGOS?
Well Wikipedia (do you really all still trust that site) will tell you that KONGOS are a four piece band, consisting of four brothers. Not like your brothers from another mother but four actual blood brothers.
It will also tell you, much like the KONGOS website does, that they are very specific about their name. You spell it KONGOS. That’s it. No c’s no extra s’s and no small letters. Just big bold and brazen caps!
And I am sure if you visit any other online sites, there will be hoards more information along the same lines. I, however am about to tell you something completely different.
Who are KONGOS? They are four musical kings of all the instruments that have been crafted on this earth! Now that sounds a little cooler doesn’t it? They are four head banging, foot stomping, throat roaring, hair flipping, drum tapping, all out rebels of the musical nation. And they are South African
Where were these four destroying stages?
At the Durban Botanic Gardens of course! Like where else do we have such an amazing open, and spacious stage? The Durban Botanic Garden in conjunction with its various collaborations with the Music at The Lake Series, Hilltop Live and Impi Concepts, over the years has always been a place where people could hang out. Make friends, and generally show off all their dance moves. Including that weird thing Uncle Dan does that know one understands.
Bring your mom, your friend, your kids, bring your in-laws if you must, but just bring and come in true Durban style.
During concerts and event days, you can find lovely vendors setup on the grounds. Four Brothers (I kid you not, this was the best when KONGOS played) served up delicious hot coffee during the evening, and the folks from Maddison Bakery create the most amazing pizza slices right before your eyes.
Did they rock out?
Listen, let’s just be real here. They rocked. No need to beat around the bush, no need to drag this out, no need to even question such greatness. THEY ROCKED!!! And here is the proof!
Setting the crowds on fire!
This is what raw passion and talent look like when combined!
Oh and here’s a spinning smoke ring, because why not?
So the next time somebody tells you KONGOS are in town. Do yourself a favor, and don’t question their authority. Just be there!
Till next time boys!
